The Degree in Tourism is geared towards people who are interested in a career in one of the major drivers of the economy: tourism. The degree of professionalism which has been obtained in this sector since 1963 when the Official Tourism School (now part of the URJC) was created, coupled with the close links it has always had with companies from the tourism sector, make the URJC's Degree in Tourism stand out from the rest.
It is essential for companies in the tourism sector and public institutions which are linked to tourism to become more and more competitive, to meet the demands of an ever-more-complex sector, the new features of the market, the revolution brought about by information technologies and the changes in society. New strategies must be brought in and also new management styles which are more appropriate for our knowledge society and so the right training is needed to prepare the professionals of the future. To satisfy these training needs, the URJC has created a Degree in Tourism which can meet the increasing demands for qualified professionals and entrepreneurs to work in the areas of tourism and leisure activities.
Tourism is an activity which can be approached from a series of different angles all of which help us understand the sector as a whole. The training received by students of the Tourism Degree will be varied and will be characterised by the appropriate blend of theory and practice. Students will learn not only theory but also, the human side of tourism. This degree has a strong emphasis on the fundamentals of a series of subject areas:- economics, geography, business, law, IT, among others, at the same time developing other specific professional skills, but principally, sound knowledge of the tourism sector.
This new Degree, following the guidelines set out by the European Higher Education Area, introduces innovations in the programming, managing and appraisal of teaching quality and encourages students to learn skills and develop such qualities as initiative, teamwork and an ability to evaluate findings.
The degree comprises 240 European-plan credits (over 4 years), of which 24 are received on completion of a placement and 6 for a dissertation. For the placement, the University Tourism School has signed over 300 agreements with companies and tourism institutions in Spain and abroad.

In the many and varied tourism-related jobs for which a medium-high professional profile is required (operations management and middle management). In order to work in an executive role, students will need to study a Masters in Tourism.

Yes (the final verification report is attached). The implementation of the degree will be carried out progressively, beginning in the first year of the degree in the academic year 2008-09.
