Cost of Living
Living costs in the Province of Madrid are higher than in other parts of Spain. However, Vicálvaro, Móstoles,
Alcorcón and Fuenlabrada are much cheaper than some of the central areas in Madrid. For basic living
expenses (i.e. rent, heating, lighting, food, daily fares), a single student would likely need around 700 Euro per
month. The above does not include leisure expenses (except transportation), so the following may be helpful as
a rough guide:
Public transport of Madrid:
Metrobus ( Area A, underground and buses circulating in the city of Madrid )
- 1 way-ticket: 1 Euro
- 10 journeys: 7,40 Euro.
“Cercanías” circulate in suburban Madrid, it is more expensive than the underground, but the price varies depending on the distance.
Monthly pass between 46 and 70 euros (valid for metro, bus suburban. The price can vary depending on the area). If you are under 21 years, you can buy a student’s pass.
