Welcome

The Electromagnetism and Fundamental Physics group (EMFF) is a small but enthusiastic group, working on the exploration and development of new theoretical approaches to the ancient but widely relevant problems concerning the behavior of Newtonian fluids and low temperature plasmas.

We are interested in the physical principles of electrical breakdown, lightning and the phenomena of streamer formation and its spontaneous branching. In connection to these problems we also explore the consequences that the topology of the electromagnetic fields has on the stabilization of certain plasma configurations.

Our group also studies Newtonian fluids and low temperature plasmas at micro and nanoscopic scales under the influence of electromagnetic fields. These fields allow a precise control of the fluid dynamics and they could potentially be used in the development of micro and nanodevices.

We use continuum descriptions of these phenomena and study them making use of differential equations analytical techniques, asymptotic methods and numerical simulations.
